Steve Komphela Departs Moroka Swallows
After only seven months on the job, Moroka Swallows’ head coach, Steve Komphela, is leaving.
The club confirmed the news via a statement posted to their official Twitter account on Monday, 19 February.
“Moroka Swallows and Coach Steve [sic] have agreed to a mutual separation,” the statement reads. “This comes after several discussions between both parties, where it was ultimately agreed that it would be in the best interest of both the club and coach Steve to separate at this stage.”
Emphasising that “mutual respect” remains between both parties, the statement continues: “The club wishes coach Steve all the best in his future endeavours, and we are grateful for the contributions he has made to the club.”
The 56-year-old, whose brief tenure was marred by financial and administrative issues at Swallows – which saw players being unable to honour match fixtures – took to social media the following day to thank both the players and staff.
“May I kindly take the opportunity to thank you for your amazing perseverance and professionalism. You portrayed selfless resilience, irrespective of circumstances … Thank you for respecting The Game, respecting The League and The Supporters [sic]. I shall always respect and remember you,” he wrote.
